Making your life easier: student services
You don't pay any student fees, but as of the winter semester 2007/2008, there is an administrative fee, which is included in the semester fees. Your 50 Euros are put to good use. At the beginning of the year 2007 we opened a student services center for you at the Friedrich-Schiller University. One such facility had also previously been established at the College of Applied Sciences.
We offer you all of the benefits from one source: come in if you are planning to change your course of studies, if you need academic advising, if you want to take a semester off, or if your THOSKA card took a trip through the washing machine and no longer works. At the University you can take care of everything in one fell swoop right next to the cafeteria. While you're at it you can also print out your term paper for the next semester or look something up on the internet. Four permanent computer work stations and W-LAN in the entire region make it possible. And then there is also delicious coffee right next door.
But nothing is so good that it still can't be improved upon. Here is the program for even more service:
Studying and testing administration from home
Anyone who took up a course of studies in winter 07/08 at the Friedrich Schiller University already knows about it. It's already in place for about half of the courses available at the FSU, and we will make it available for the others by 2010 at the latest. We're talking about the digital studying and testing administration, Friedolin. With Friedolin you can sign up for your courses and tests, change your home address after moving, or print your certificate of enrollment for Dad or for the health insurance company to see.
Online Application
Finished with paperwork, finally. At the university it's already been going on for a few semesters, and at the college of applied sciences it's starting now: the online application. Moreover, an IT-Concept for the advancement of customer satisfaction is being developed right now.
A promise of service
Whether it's a question about parental leave, changing your course of studies, or academic advising: whoever writes to the student services centers at the university or the college of applied sciences will get an answer within two workdays. That is our goal. We can't promise to achieve it every time, but we achieve it more and more. Just send us a little reminder if we are too slow.
Studying on time
Up until now, whoever studied an uncommon combination of courses had to fight with overlapping class times. Even common course combinations were not always free from crossovers at the Friedrich Schiller University. We have worked hard in order to reduce this overlap, so that you can complete your course of studies within the normal amount of time. Even for the "paradise bird" course combinations, we will help you do something when your Arabic syntax class overlaps with the fundamentals of sport economics. If you need both courses for your student plan, then contact your academic advisor or the student department head. At the college of applied sciences in Jena, there is already collision-free student planning for all courses of study in the required areas.
For the popular course combinations, we guarantee you that you can complete your studies in the anticipated amount of time. For the rare combinations, we guarantee our effort for giving you an individual solution. But, it shouldn't be our responsibility in all cases. If you decide to oversleep through your classes too often, then we can't help you in this case.
