Arriving and dusting off: the primary residence campaign
The tax for a second residence in the city of Jena, which has been fought for a long time, is now finally off the table. In this respect, we can already announce a small victory in the matter of infrastructure. The good news is that for the time being, the luxury packet that the city gives its students has been extended. Altogether 120 Euros educational benefit and a thick bonus booklet wait for those who register their primary residence in Jena. We also want to warmly recommend this to you, because a city can only offer as much as we offer here in Jena.
Bicycle riding in Jena
There are already several kilometers of bike paths in and around Jena. But there’s not yet enough for us to be satisfied. The city is committed to further improving the bicycle situation. In order to do this, a corporation for bicycle paths has been founded, and the city has provided 70,000 Euros for the coming year towards improving the network of bicycle paths. Sports in Jena
The University sports club, USV, is the largest sport club in all of Thuringia, with 3,000 members. It is an attractive offer for our students, providing opportunities to participate in all imaginable types of sports. As of recently, it only offered the classical indoor sport types. This is different now. In January, 2008, the new 3-field hall of the USV was opened and now you can reserve a badminton course (and also many more) according to your heart’s desire.
But there’s even more news to report in regards to sports. In order to give the only east German basketball team in the 1 st league an adequate home town, the city will build a basketball court with sufficient spectator capacity within the next two years. Beyond this, the sport complexes in Lobeda West will be finished being cleaned in the upcoming year. These locations offer many possibilities for club and student sports. Currently, the athletic facilities in the Oberaue are being examined in depth in order to maintain Jena’s high standard for athletics in the future. Public friendliness
Students are also citizens and like a little bit of additional service. And the service comes: until 2010 the local public office will find a new location within the framework of a new administrative building. This will then strengthen what the family and social service department has to offer. Check back here in the future, we will report about the progress of the planning.
